Detectives have re-arrested a 36-year-old man facing murder, rape and robbery with violence cases who escaped from police custody June this year.

John Muturi, who reportedly stabbed his wife to death in August last year, had been detained at Karuri Police Station awaiting mental assessment then ordered by Kiambu High Court.

The capital offence suspect sneaked out of the cells around 6PM on June 22 while they were being served their evening meal.

After escaping from the cell, Mr Muturi went into hiding in Namanga town where he undertook menial jobs to earn a living.

The sleuths smoked him out of the hideout on Thursday following tip-off from the public.

The suspect will face extra charges of escaping from lawful police custody.
