The Ethics and Anti-Corruption (EACC) has launched probe into alleged irregular award of a tender for insurance services to Tafakul Insurance of Africa by the Isiolo county government during fiscal year 2015/16.
The company was awarded the work vide Tender No. ISL/ICG/001/2015/16 and received about Sh73 million from the county between January 16, 2018 and January 15, 2021, a report by EACC indicates.
The Commission has already written to the County Secretary requesting for documents and information related to the said tender.
“To facilitate investigations, kindly provide original payment vouchers and their attachments in respect to payments to Tafakul Insurance Africa and Pinnie Insurance Brokers Limited by the county government,” a letter dated October 4 reads in part.
Pinnie Insurance Brokers was paid Sh31 million, Sh20 million on March 5, 2019 and the remaining amount on January 17, 2020, all wired through the company’s Gulf African Bank account.
Tafakul was paid Sh42, 744, 530 in fourteen bits ranging between Sh60, 000 and Sh18 million through its account at First Community Bank.
The county has until October 18 to avail the needed documents.
