A Class Seven pupil in Bamburi, Mombasa County has been hospitalised after he was beaten up for taking extra Chapatis during dinner at Gremon Education Centre school.
The pupil, with acute kidney injury and mutiple wounds on his genitalia, was beaten up for taking five Chapatis instead of required one.
The 13-year-old was reportedly beaten up by school Director Ms Nancy Gashewa using water pipes before she ordered other learners to beat him up too.
“He has acute kidney injury. We have fixed him with Catheta,” a medic at the hospital said.
The injured boy was allegedly after the incident, isolated in the dormitory with no medical attention only for his mother to be told of his deteroriating state a week later.
The incident happened on January 23 but the family was alerted on January 31, 2022 with school claiming he had sustained injuries after using hot water to bathe.
Coast region Education Director Adan Hussein ordered closure of the institution which reports indicate was registered as a Secondary school and lacked the requisite documents.
“The private wing will be closed (as is not registered) until they fulfil the Ministry of Education guidelines,” Mr Hussein said.
The boy’s mother Agnes Ngure called for legal action against the school management for the predicament saying they should have sent her son home.
“It is so sad that I took my son to school while okay but he has developed complications that will see him put on dialysis at such an early age,” she said amid tears.
Reports indicate that the school director has been arrested and will be arraigned in court later today.
