The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has registered 2, 627 new voters in the first two weeks of the second phase of enhanced voter registration exercise out of a target of 14,000 in Isiolo County.
The exercise entered it’s third and final week yesterday with IEBC boss Wafula Chebukati warning that there will be no extension of the registration exercise.
“We appeal to the young people who have not registered as voters to take advantage of the time given because there will be no extension and if they are locked out they will miss an opportunity to decide who becomes their leader,” Mr Chebukati told journalists in Isiolo town.
The commission is targeting 2,987,138 new voters across the country but had only achieved a total of 548,188 by Monday.
“We are hoping that this being the last week, Kenyans will register in big numbers,” he said.
He noted that the agency was working closely with the security teams to ensure security in Arid and Semi-Arid counties during election time.
