Police in Kirinyaga are holding a man who reportedly murdered his wife and four children before surrendering to Kianyaga Police station.
The suspect, Murage Njuki is said to have hacked to death his 39-year-old wife after she stopped him from defiling their daughter before turning to his two daughters and two sons aged between one and thirteen years.
The locals who responded to the distress calls said they were shocked to find the five lifeless bodies lying in a pool of blood.
Irate residents launched a manhunt for the suspect vowing to punish him for the incident only to realize he had presented himself to the police after committing the crime.
Kirinyaga East Sub-County Police Commander Anthony Wanjuu said investigations had been launched to investigate the cause of the murder before arraigning the suspect in court.
Mr Njuki is likely to be charged with murder.
