President Uhuru Kenyatta has indicated that the constitutional changes process through Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) that was ‘thwarted’ by the court will definitely make a comeback.
“That which did not happen will happen,” stated President Kenyatta referring to BBI.
In his State of The Nation address at the National Assembly chambers on Tuesday, President insisted that the country is still in the constitutional moment and will definitely achieve that which BBI was meant to.
He said one of the proposed changes in the BBI was increasing county government allocation from 15 percent to 35 percent of the national revenue something that would have greatly promoted devolution.
He added that expanded executive was meant to bring to an end the perennial post-election disagreements caused by the winner take-it-all kind of election.
The Head of State also said BBI had also proposed increment of constituencies something that would have taken more resources to the people.
He expressed disappointment with the Judiciary for ‘blocking’ the constitutional changes process noting that Kenyans had given the process a nod through the county assemblies and the National Assembly that voted in favor of it almost unanimously.
“Few people sat down at a corner and decided to frustrate Kenyans,” he said referring to the judges who thrashed ruled against BBI.
