A court in Nakuru has sentenced to life imprisonment man who defiled a two-and-a-half-year-old girl after luring her with chewing gum.
Mr Josiah Koskei committed the crime at Lulukwet village in Njoro Sub-County six months ago.
The suspect, according to the minor’s mother’s testimony in court, visited the neighbour’s home and gave the girl the gum as she played outside the house.
The mother would immediately leave the home only to later find her daughter seated next to the accused in her kitchen looking somewhat sad. On examining her, the mother spotted blood on the toddler’s clothes prompting the arrest of the suspect.
In his defense, Mr Koskei claimed that he had been framed by the girl’s mother following a past disagreement over a complaint he had lodged against her for selling alcohol which led to her arrest.
But Nakuru Senior Resident Magistrate Yvonne Khatambi found the suspect guilty saying the evidence produced in court was sufficient to prove that Mr Koskei committed the offence.
The court said the life imprisonment sentence was appropriate owing to the complainant’s age and the injuries that she sustained following the ugly incident.
