The Isiolo County government’s Sh5.2 billion Supplementary budget I for financial year 2021/22 could be tabled at the County Assembly tomorrow (Thursday May 27), two weeks after MCAs unanimously boycotted May 11 sitting to deliberate it alongside a report on the County Fiscal Strategy Paper.
The 17 MCAs failed to show up for the session on claims that they were being coerced to pass the budget without adequately scrutinizing the document which they wanted amended to capture residents needs.
The lawmakers were concerned over unfair allocation of money for paying pending bills failure claiming that the current ones that had accumulated during Governor Mohamed Kuti ongoing tenure had not been captured.
The MCAs maintained that they could only pass the document if their concerns are factored saying to revive the county’s economy, suppliers had to be paid for services delivered.
The thepresspoint.com is reliably informed that Governor Kuti has been holding a series of meetings with a section of the MCAs in Isiolo and Nairobi with a view of settling the stalemate that could hinder service delivery considering that counties have been grappling with delayed disbursement of funds from the National Treasury.
One of the male MCAs who spoke to thepresspoint.com in confidence said the County Assembly and Budget and Appropriations committee had finished going through the document and that few remaining issues were being ironed out.
The budget could be tabled tomorrow (Thursday) or early next week.
The May 5 gazette notice of the special sitting was reportedly done without prior consultations.
