One Kenya Alliance Principals have said they will not attend ODM Leader Raila Odinga’s Azimio la Umoja summit at Kasarani grounds on December 10 over fears that their presence could have been seen like they were supporting the Former Premier’s bid.
The fallout in Nasa coalition and Mr Odinga’s reluctance to support one of the principals in the 2022 general elections and failure by ODM to share funds from the Political Parties Fund equally could have also pushed the leaders into snubbing the event where Mr Odinga launched his Presidential bid and Azimio la Umoja Movement.
ANC Leader Musalia Mudavadi and FORD Kenya’s Moses Wetang’ula on Thursday evening confirmed that they will not attend the meeting that will bring together leaders and Kenyans from across the country.
The meeting comes two days after Mt Kenya Foundation, a group of influential business people, endorsed Mr Odinga for the Presidency.
Mr Mudavadi said he received the invite Thursday evening and would not attend “because of personal engagements”.
“I have just received an official invitation addressed in my personal capacity as ANC Party leader and not OKA principal. Regrettably, I will not be able to attend…,” he said.
Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka is currently in South Sudan for talks on peace in the country.
Mr Wetang’ula said due to prior engagements will not also be able to attend the convention where Mr Odinga is expected to launch his Presidential bid.
“I received an invitation from my brother Mr Odinga to attend his Azimio event tomorrow. I wish him well,” the Bungoma Senator said.
President Uhuru Kenyatta, currently in Tanzania for the country’s 60th Independence celebrations, will also not attend the Azimio la Umoja event.
