A section of Isiolo elders and community leaders have implored Isiolo MCAs to revive the impeachment motion against Governor Abdi Ibrahim Hassan Guyo, accusing him of sowing division and failing to lead with integrity.
Led by Borana Council of Elders Chairperson Mohamed Konso and former Isiolo North MP Charfana Mokku, they said Governor Guyo had failed to unite the residents and was allegedly instead engaging in divisive politics that threaten the peace and stability of the county.
Mokku said it was sad that after being overwhelmingly voted into office by majority of the communities living in Isiolo who were prior to the 2022 general elections disgruntled by the leadership of his Predecessor Mohamed Kuti, Guyo was not living to the expectations of the electorates.
“A Governor’s seat is not hereditary. We supported Guyo’s bid without considering his background, but now he has become a source of disunity,” Mokku said.
He further accused the Governor of insulting other leaders, including Mandera Senator and UDM Party leader Ali Roba, Marsabit Governor Mohamud Ali and Isiolo Senator Fatuma Dullo, contravening the dignity expected from such a high office.
Mokku lamented that not a single major project had been implemented in Isiolo under Guyo’s leadership, and that the few he was bragging about were NGO funded.
The Borana elders’ boss said although the Senate had warned Governor Guyo against further misconduct during the failed impeachment attempt, he had failed to act as a symbol of unity as advised.
“Instead of correcting the issues, he has gone to the extreme. We are now losing lives mysteriously and disunity is spreading fast,” Konso said, in reference to the alleged spate of insecurity in the county after the failed impeachment.
Ameru community representative John Majau alleged that top security officials had been manipulated by the Governor to help propagate his selfish interests, citing laxity in handling of instances of lawlessness in the county.
He pointed to the recent destruction of the Isiolo County Assembly by goons as among the cases that were poorly handled by the police, questioning why no suspect had been arrested or stolen property recovered.
“Public property was vandalized during the impeachment chaos, but up to now, no one has been arrested. That is a total failure by security agencies,” Majau said.
He urged Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen to carry out total overhaul of the top security officers in Isiolo to restore public trust and impartiality in handling of security matters.
Turkana community patron Samuel Lokoro said the peace that once defined Isiolo was slowly fading away due to reckless utterances and tribal divisions.
He said that insensitive attacks and threats had become rampant in the county, yet no action is being taken, further sparking fear among residents.
Lokoro also criticised the Governor for launching a borehole in Elsa that had ostensibly been constructed by an NGO, accusing him of taking credit for what others had done.
BCE Vice Chair Mohamed Ali accused the Governor of causing chaos because he had no answers to the questions raised during the impeachment.
He further alleged that county funds meant for development were being misused and diverted to Nairobi for unaccounted for activities.
The leaders urged MCAs to stand firm and reintroduce the impeachment motion, saying the people of Isiolo had lost faith in the current leadership.
The Senate, earlier this month, saved Guyo after 16 out 18 MCAs who voted to impeach him failed to justify that they had a sitting to deliberate on the impeachment motion on June 26, 2025.
Senate Speaker Amason Kingi called on the county boss to unite with the other leaders and address the issue that had led to the introduction of the impeachment motion.
