Isiolo’s United Democratic Alliance gubernatorial aspirant Hussein Tene Dabaso has slammed Governor Mohammed Kuti over alleged failure to dig toilets for residents in rural areas promising to address the issue if elected in August elections.
Speaking after the electoral agency cleared him to contest for the coveted seat, Mr Tene said if elected, he would within two years ensure all the households in the county have pit latrines for hygiene purposes and to rid them against diseases.
“It is shameful that majority of households in rural areas have no toilets in the 21st century and have to wait until its dark for them to go for long calls in the bushes,” he claimed.
Accompanied by his running mate Nicholas Mugabe, Mr Tene promised to tackle several issues bedevilling the electorates including unemployment, insecurity,water shortage and poor road networks.
He said his vast experience in the security sector makes him the most suitable to tackle insecurity crisis that has claimed dozens of lives in the region in the recent past.
“I will, if you elect me, end insecurity menace in my first 100 days in office,” he promised.
To cushion pastoralists against losses when drought strike, the politician promised to help them insure their animals and sink boreholes within the grazing fields to ensure they have enough drinking water.
Mr Tene said his administration would work tirelessly towards ensuring every home has piped water and reduce over-reliance on untreated water from rivers.
He hit out at outgoing Dr Kuti and his predecessor Godana Doyo saying it was unfortunate that since the start of devolution there was nothing tangible to show for the over Sh40 billion disbursed to the county.
He is battling for the seat against ex-EACC boss Halakhe Waqo (ODM), City Majority leader Abdi Guyo Ibrahim (Jubilee), Kimaita Machuguma (Safina), Mr Doyo (Independent) and PNU’s Kenneth Turibu.
