A section of Isiolo MCAs have called on the security agencies to enhance their security, saying their lives were at risk.
Led by Burat MCA Nicholas Lorot, the MCAs accused Governor Abdi Ibrahim Guyo of threats and intimidation following their recent statement where they demanded investigations into irregular employments in the County Government.
“I don’t understand where the Governor would send me a threatening message for doing what the constitution mandates me to. He should instead be correcting the mess in his administration,” noted Mr Lorot.
The sentiments come amid heated conversations regarding a recently leaked County Government payroll.
“We have thousands of educated but unemployed young people in Isiolo and we cannot stay silent when unqualified people are getting employed using taxpayers money at the detriment of local residents, “he said.
Bulapesa MCA David Waithaka said nothing would stop them from agitating for improved lives for their electorates.
He said they would not allow illegalities to happen in the county under their watch as they were negatively impacting the communities.
His sentiments were echoed by Nominated MCAs Kamila Warsame and Rehema Abdikadir who said majority of the MCAs had been threatened and could not speak against injustices metted on the electorates by the Guyo’s administration.
“Even if everyone is silent I’ll personally stand to defend the constitution I swore to protect by telling the truth and what is happening,” said Ms Abdikadir.
According to Ms Warsame, the residents had been complaining of the high wage bill until the exposé that she said revealed nepotism among other illegalities.
“If we remain silent, we shall not be fair enough to the residents. It is shocking that one can be intimidated for speaking the truth,” she said.
Turkana Community representative Samuel Lokoro castigated the county boss over what he termed as ‘side shows’ instead of fulfilling the promises he made to the electorates.
He said there was an urgent need for the governor to focus on delivering his promises instead of threatening the ward representatives.
“A leader should focus his energy on delivering for the people who put him into office instead of threatening other elected leaders,” he said.
The MCAs have called on the investigating agencies to summon the Governor to shed light on the threat claims which they termed as effort to prevent them from performing their mandates.
