Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga has defected to Deputy President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance party.
Mr Kahiga said Kenyans who want to know the history of our nation should follow ODM Leader Raila Odinga while those interested in where the country is headed to, should rally behind Dr Ruto.
While responding to President Uhuru Kenyatta’s recent statement that next year’s Presidential race will be a marathon and not sprint, Mr Kahiga said Mr Odinga cannot run any race as “he will fall” before finishing.
“I saw the President say that old Raila can run faster (than Ruto) but they should not try because he will fall,” Mr Kahiga said.
During a Sunday service at PEFA Church Ngangarithi in Nyeri town where he accompanied DP Ruto, Mr Kahiga said he would not support Mr Odinga’s presidential bid like his colleagues.
Majority of the Governors in Mt Kenya have declared their support for Mr Odinga’s Azimio la Umoja and Presidential bid with only Mr Kahiga and his Kirinyaga counterpart Anne Waiguru supporting DP Ruto.
“I have a problem and I need some prayers because I am the only Mt Kenya Jubilee Governor left in the disintegrating party. There is a lot of cold,” he said.
The Governor said even though he was the only one who had not declared who he is supporting between Dr Ruto and Mr Odinga, he would not support the latter.
“Hata kama nimebaki pekee, sitaolewa ODM. Afadhali nikae bila bwana (Even if I am the only one left, I will not join ODM. I would rather stay alone),” he said.
In a clear indication that he was decided on moving to UDA, Mr Kahiga said “The best place for people to wear caps is in Karen. We will look into that issue”.
MPs Rigathi Gachagua (Mathira), Ndindi Nyoro (Kiharu), Kimani Icungwa (Kikuyu), Alice Wahome (Kandara), Rahab Mukami (Nyeri), Jane Kihara (Naivasha), Susan Kihika (Nakuru Senator), Aisha Jumwa (Malindi) and Githunguri’s Kago Mukuha were also present.
