Police in Nakuru have arrested a 25-year-old woman from Kuresoi who faked pregnancy to ostensibly extort money from her husband.
To ensure her husband Wesley Rono would not discover her hidden motive, Patricia Rono would stuff clothes in her belly to fake the baby bump and bar the father-to-be from touching it.
Unknown to her, the man, months after she told him she was pregnant, detected something fishy but opted to play along.
She would months later start asking for money to attend clinics and buy clothes for the expected child which the man offered.
Nine months later, she asked for money for maternity services as was ‘due to deliver’.
She would then contact her husband and inform him that she had delivered a baby boy and had to go to her parents’ home to ‘recuperate’.
Immediately she returned back home with a baby, that she bought, the husband alerted police who arrested her and on questioning admitted to faking the pregnancy.
Police have launched a manhunt for the woman who sold the child to her at Sh50, 000.
