The government has lifting the ban on Prison visits paving way for Kenyans to visit their loved ones serving jail terms for various offences.
The development was announced by President Uhuru Kenyatta while in Ruiru, Kiambu County on Friday.
The ban had been introduced to help prevent spread of Covid-19.
The State had earlier maintained that anyone visiting prisons must have been vaccinated against Covid-19 to help stem spread of the disease across the correctional facilities.
Prisons Commissioner General Wycliffe Ogalo earlier said all those visiting must provide a proof of vaccination before being allowed to see their loved ones.
“All visitors must proof that they have been fully vaccinated before being allowed in for the safety of the inmates,” he recently said at Manyani Maximum Security Prison.
