Two more people who sustained burn wounds after a petrol tanker exploded in Malanga on Saturday night have succumbed bringing the death toll to 15.

The two were among those admitted at Siaya Referral Hospital.

Thirteen (13) people perished on the spot and more than 30 sustained injuries after the tanker exploded while they were siphoning fuel moments after the vehicle overturned after it was involved in a head-on collision with a lorry ferrying milk along Kisumu-Busia road.

Gem MP Elisha Odhiambo had called on the government to assist families whose loved ones are admitted to the hospital foot the bills.

The tragedy occurred some kilometres from Sidindi where a tanker ferrying petroleum burst into flames as residents tried to scoop fuel claiming 39 lives and leaving scores injured in July 1998.
