The main suspect in killing of Isiolo peace ambassador Elizabeth Ibrahim will remain in police custody for 14 days to allow police conclude investigations.
An application for more time by detectives investigating the Monday killing at Nomads area in Kambi Garba was on Wednesday allowed by Isiolo court.
The sleuths want to obtain autopsy from government pathologist, blood samples from suspect Patrick Nawit for DNA analysis, record witness statements and carry out suspect’s mental assessment before his arraignment over murder.
This comes even as fresh details emerged that Ms Ibrahim had an argument with Mr Nawit while on their way home from a burial ceremony.
The suspect stabbed the 48-year-old to death over suspected land row.
Mr Nawit, who had been admitted at Isiolo Referral Hospital after mob beating, was discharged from the hospital yesterday and detained at Isiolo Police Station.
Isiolo Principal Magistrate Evanson Ngigi allowed police to continue holding the suspect to allow finalization of probe and for his safety as release could subject him to mob justice.
The case will be mentioned on January 20, 2022.
The activist was murdered near the same place where her husband and first born son were killed 10 years ago following clashes between two communities living in Isiolo.
