Murang’a County perceived to be leaning towards Deputy President William Ruto who is opposed to constitutional amendments has shocked Kenyans after unanimously passing the Amendment Bill 2020.
The adoption of the bill is a major blow for Dr Ruto’s allies MPs Alice Wahome and Ndindi Nyoro of Kandara and Kiharu respectively who have been ardent critics of President Uhuru Kenyatta. Also dealt major blow is Senator Irungu Kang’ata whose letter to Mr Kenyatta stirred up mixed reactions.
The county joined Nyeri that passed the bill minutes earlier bringing to three total number of Mt Counties that have endorsed the amendments. Tharaka Nithi County Assembly later passed the amendments that were endorsed by 20 MCAs.
Meru and Kirinyaga counties followed later making it five, the counties from Mt Kenya that have adopted the report.
So far, more than 20 county assemblies have passed the BBI bill.
Garissa, Machakos, Makueni, Narok, Kakamega and Mombasa also unanimously endorsed the report.
