President Uhuru Kenyatta has mourned the death of the National Council of Elders Chairperson Phares Rutere who passed on while receiving treatment for Covid-19 related complications at a hospital in Nairobi.
Mr Rutere was in and out of Kiirua Mission Hospital in Meru before he was taken to the Nairobi hospital where he died on Wednesday morning.
The Head of State eulogized the late as a robust custodian of the African culture saying his death was a big blow to the country.
“Death has robbed the nation of a dependable leader and wise counselor whose role in uniting the nation shall be dearly missed,” Mr Kenyatta said.
