Arch-Bishop Philip Arnold Anyolo has been appointed the fifth Archbishop of Nairobi Diocese following the retirement of Cardinal John Njue.
Cardinal Njue stepped down as the archbishop early this year after attaining the retirement age of 76 years.
Pope Francis through a letter sent to the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) announced the appointment of the bishop who has been heading Kisumu Catholic arch-diocese.
Kenyan and Sudan Pope’s representative Archbishop Hurbetus Van Mergen sent an official communication to the conference, on behalf of the Pope, confirming the appointment.
Arch-Bishop Anyolo was born in Bungoma in 1956, ordained a priest in 1983 before he was made Bishop of Homabay Diocese in 2003 and later archbishop in November 15, 2018.
He also served as the KCCB chairperson.
Nairobi Arch-Diocese has been under the leadership of Auxiliary Bishop David Kamau since the retirement of Cardinal Njue.
