Three suspects among them a police officer have been arrested over Sunday night robbery with violence incident at the residence of a prominent businessman at Muthaiga area that saw armed thugs rob the tycoon an unknown amount of money and assorted jewelry.
Detectives believe the officer, Police Constable Jared Omboga Makambe, who was reportedly on guard at the Nairobi residence during the incident, could have aided the attackers.
Two private guards Judah Wafula and Stephen Omwega have also been arrested.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, the businessman heard loud bang at his door and his efforts to reach out to the gate security men were futile.
The two armed criminals gained entry into his house and robbed him of the items at gunpoint.
The criminals, then escaped while firing a G3 rifle reportedly stolen from the police officer who was on guard.
The rifle was recovered in a nearby bush by officers who visited the scene after the incident.
“The trio are in custody as further investigations ensue,” DCI shared on Twitter.
