An Isiolo court has allowed police to continue holding an officer arrested in connection with last Monday’s bandit attack at Loruko police post that left one officer dead and saw two rifles stolen.
The investigators suspect Police Constable Vincent Kipkorir could have colluded with the criminals as was not on duty during the material day despite having been the day’s sentry together with the slain Francis Njeru.
The officer, who police reports indicate appeared at the police post on Tuesday, did not have his firearm and could not explain it’s whereabouts raising suspicion.
Sleuths believe he could have sold his firearm loaded with 20 rounds of ammunition to the bandits due to his failure to account for it.
The above is also premised on the fact that every officer attached to the police post is required to ensure safety of their rifles as the station lacks an armory or metal steel for storage of weapons.
Previous police reports indicated that Mr Kipkorir had left his gun with the late officer after leaving for Isiolo town to seek banking services but police are yet to establish the truth in the matter.
Sources privy to ongoing probe, say the attack was well organized and conducted near where the officer resided opening lid on the likelihood of him having been aware of the attack.
Another officer Correl Boaz was several metres away at a nearby school to reportedly make a call when the bandits struck killing him on the spot on the night of January 31 this year.
Isiolo county commissioner Geoffrey Omoding earlier said the criminals were after the rifles and foodstuffs.
Three other suspects among them a juvenile, aged 17, have been arrested in connection with the incident.
The Isiolo court early this week allowed continued detainment of the suspects at Isiolo Police Station until February 14 to allow detectives complete probe and prefer charges against them.
