At least 10 aspirants have expressed interest to succeed Murang’a Governor and Presidential hopeful Mwangi wa Iria in the August elections.

In the list is county Woman Rep Sabina Chege who will be battling it out with nine male hopefuls among them Senator Irungu Kang’ata.

Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro is also said to be interested in the powerful seat though sources revealed that talks were underway to have him withdraw the quest in favour of Mr Kang’ata as both are allied to Deputy President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance Party.

Should the talks fail to materialised, Mr Nyoro and Mr Kang’ata, who will launch his bid at Mumbi grounds tomorrow, will battle it out for United Democratic Alliance’s ticket.

Others are former Kigumo MP Jamleck Kamau, Transport PS Irungu Nyakera, Water PS Joseph Wairagu and Murang’a Health Executive Joseph Mbai.

Also in the list is ex-Kandara MP Joshua Toro, Dr Mike Gatogo and Dr Moses Mwangi.

Transport CS James Macharia is also said to be interested in the seat though he is yet to declare publicly.

The race for about 600, 000 votes across the seven constituencies will be a show of might between majority of the aspirants allied to President Uhuru Kenyatta leaning towards Azimio la Umoja and those supporting Dr Ruto’s UDA.

The Azimio team has already declared an onslaught against UDA that has seemingly gained ground in the region as they seek to reverse the gains made by the country’s second in command.
