Isiolo North MP aspirant Mwenda Thuranira (PNU) has promised to fully end unfairness in award of bursaries if elected in the August General Elections.
Mr Thuranira who is banking on his education sponsorship programs to rally voters behind his bid said it was sad that the funds meant to help learners from needy backgrounds were being diverted to undeserving students leaving the needy out and exposing them to suffering.
“I will create a student management system that will help us identify the deserving students and ensure money is sent directly to their institutions after the award,” said Mr Thuranira.
The aspirant spoke while overseeing over 300 needy learners join Samburu Technical Training Institute under his scholarship program.
The business-cum-politician maintained that he was committed to reducing the illiteracy levels and empowering the residents in the region through enhanced access to quality education.
“The first step in empowering a society is through education for it’s young people and I promise to reach out to more learners and help them acquire skills,” he said while accusing incumbent MP Hassan Odha of losing touch with the electorates.
Mr Thuranira urged the students to utilize the opportunity to better their lives and shun distractions and indulgence in drug and substance abuse.
Nearly 1000 learners have benefited from the politician’s sponsorship program that seeks to help children from needy backgrounds access secondary education.
