A suspect wanted in the United States for wildlife and drug trafficking has been arrested in Meru County.
Mr Abdi Hussein Ahmed alias Abu Khadi was charged in an indictment alongside three others, Moazu Kromah, Amara Cherif and Mansur Mohammed Surur for participating in a conspiracy to traffic Rhinoceros horns and Elephant ivory valued at more than $7 million USD (833M).
The arrest comes two months after the U.S. Department of State, through the Transnational Organized Crime Rewards Program (TOCRP) announced a reward of $ 1 Million USD bounty for anyone who could volunteer information that could lead to his arrest.
The four were also linked to an illegal poaching of more than 35 rhinoceros and more than 100 elephants.
Mr Ahmed was smoked out of his hideout in Maua, Meru County on Monday morning where he is said to have been living in a rented room.
According to the indictment in a case currently being handled by U.S. District Judge Gregory H. Woods, the four were members of a transnational criminal enterprise based in Uganda and surrounding countries that was engaged in the large-scale trafficking and smuggling of rhinoceros horns and elephant ivory.
