Learners from five schools in Laikipia West constituency are yet to resume learning a week after schools opened for the first time this year due to insecurity that continues to wreak havoc in the area.
Bondeni, Wangachi, Mirango, Kabati Primary and Kabati mixed day secondary schools learners were forced to halt their education with several families fleeing from their homes to seek refuge elsewhere.
The tension follows the killing of a civilian and a GSU inspector last weekend by armed bandits who had been hiding in Nature Conservancy.
The inspector was shot dead while he was patrolling in the conservancy.
Last week several bandits attacked a group of people in a farm within the same conservancy killing one on the spot.
Teachers’ unions have since vowed to withdraw teachers from the area until security is restored.
Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (Kuppet) and the Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) bosses said none of their members will report to work in the insecurity-prone areas adding that their lives are more precious than work.
CS interior security Dr Fred Matiangi who visited the county last week said the government would establish more security camps in the area to ensure normalcy resumes.
The CS ordered all herders who are illegally in the area to vacate within seven days adding that the government was preparing for an operation to flash out all those who had invaded the county.
