Police in Kirinyaga have arrested a man for keeping the decomposing body of his 67-year-old mother at his house in Mutithi village.
Reports indicate that ailing Ms Tabitha Wakathare died last Thursday after the son barred her from seeking treatment.
The man, suspected to be a member of a religious cult, hid her body in the main house’s bathroom.
It is claimed that the suspect would sometimes wake up to pray for the mother to resurrect but to no avail.
Relatives say they had insisted that the woman be taken to hospital but the son insisted on praying for her until she died.
The incident was discovered yesterday after relatives went to look for the woman after she failed to return to her home in Ciranga where she lived alone after death of her husband last year.
The man turned them away raising suspicion prompting reporting to local authorities.
Police later stormed the house and found the decomposing body lay on the bathroom’s floor.
The man was immediately arrested together with his wife and two children and locked up at Kiamaciri Police Station.
Police have launched investigations into the incident as interrogation of the suspects ahead of their arraignment continues.
