A man who reportedly hacked into Chuka Boys’ High School bank account and stole over Sh300, 000 has a series of similar charges to answer in courts spread across Tharaka-Nithi, Makueni, Kitui, Garissa, Isiolo and Kisumu counties.
Tobias Mnangala Sifuna, an IT guru was first arraigned in a Chuka court and charged with six counts of hacking into the school’s bank account, counterfeiting stamps of two schools and stealing school property.
The court heard that Sifuna hacked into the school bank account and replaced the till number that was written on the form ones admission letters with his mobile phone number making sure that all the paid fees got into his account.
The accused who appeared before Senior Chief Magistrate John Njoroge, was said to have also defrauded Ms Doris Kagwira a Chuka Boys’ High School parent of Sh12,000 by lying that he was an employee of the school.
Sifuna was also charged with theft of a laptop and projector all valued at Sh120, 000 property of Yururu Girls’ High School in Meru County.
The middle aged man, the court was told, was on December 30, 2019 at Ndaragua Girls’High School found in possession of faked Chebuyugisi High School and Mukama Primary School stamps.
He denied the charges and is set to appear before the same court on February 24 when the case will be mentioned.
The prosecution opposed his release on bail or bond arguing that it would be easy to move him from one court to the other while in police custody.
