The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (Ipoa) has launched investigations into a case where a minor was reportedly detained by police for nearly a week after reporting an attempted defilement against her on August 23.
The Class five pupil had been sent to a restaurant to buy lunch when an attendant lured her into his house and tried to defile her.
Upon reporting to the authority, the two were arrested and the suspect was reportedly released on bond but the minor was placed in custody.
Police sources said the girl was detained to give her time so that she could open up on what had transpired on the fateful day while the suspect was released as he had suffered injuries in the hands of irate residents.
Officers from Ipoa on Monday visited the victim’s family in Baringo to gather evidence and information that could help in the ongoing probe.
The suspect who has been roaming freely has since gone into hiding.
