The Huduma Namba rollout by the government was illegal, the High Court has ruled saying it conflicted with the Data Protection Act.
The court said the State should have carried out an impact assessment before the rollout.
The Fred Matiang’i led Ministry of Interior collected data from more than 35 million Kenyans for the Huduma Namba cards.
More than six million Kenyans have already picked their Huduma Namba cards with processing of over 20 million cards pending.
With the distribution of the cards having already been rolled out, Judge Jairus Ngaah ordered the government to protect Kenyans data.
