An Isiolo-based private primary school that had dilapidated classrooms and lacked enough teachers forcing its closure in February last year has resumed services.
Brainstar Schools, that is run by a local investor has since relocated to Chechelesi area and has over 300 learners with admission for Grade One to Grade Six ongoing. The school was registered recently.
“We closed the school so that the management could undertake renovation before re-admitting learners for better services and safety of our children,” Isiolo County Director of Education Hussein Koriyow said.
Speaking during the reopening event attended by county and national government officials, the School’s Headteacher Peter Ochieng said the institution had enough facilities to accomodate more than 1000 learners and was Competency Based Curriculum compliant.
Mr Ochieng said a modern swimming pool, French and Arabic lessons, computer laboratory for IT lessons and ongoing construction of modern playground will ensure full implementation of CBC.
The adequate facilities, he said, will also ensure Covid-19 guidelines especially on social distancing are observed to stem spread of the deadly disease.
“We have adequate and modern infrastructure to accommodate a lot of learners and I want to assure parents that their children will be safe here,” said Mr Ochieng adding that the fees were affordable.
“Our fees are within the same range as that of other private schools and parents should bring us their children and we will sharpen them to become stars,” he assured.
The extra lessons being offered and the facilities will ensure learners grow their talents and realize their full potential, he said adding that the school will from July start offering boarding classes.
The education official asked the school management to ensure full compliance with the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) system of education and appealed to the public to support the institution.
Isiolo County Secretary Ahmed Galgalo, who represented Governor Mohamed Kuti at the event, stressed on the need for parents to take education of their children seriously.
“We are committed to supporting education for learners from needy families to ensure an informed society,” Dr Galgalo said.
Mr Ibrahim Alio, a parent, who doubles as Isiolo Health Chief Officer asked the school management to ensure strict observance of Covid-19 rules.
“I am appealing to the school to ensure the learners observe physical distancing to stem spread of Covid-19,” Mr Alio appealed.
