A young man who was Tuesday shot dead at Kubisera in Kinna ward was a criminal escorting a group of aliens to unidentified location, police have maintained despite reports from the public that the deceased was not involved in the illegal business.

Police reports indicate that the 28-year-old man together with another man who is currently on the run were armed with AK-47 rifles while escorting a group of 15 aliens.

Police officers on patrol are said to have flagged down the group but defied and instead started firing at the officers, prompting a fire exchange.

In the process, eight of the aliens were arrested while the other criminal escaped, a senior police officer not authorized to speak to media said.

Later that evening, police say they received reports that there was a body within the scene of the incident that was positively identified as one of the men who was armed.

His body was taken to Isiolo Referral hospital morgue for autopsy to establish the exact cause of the death.

This as local residents and Senator Fatuma Dullo called on the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) to investigate the motive of the killing, insisting that the deceased was not a criminal.

“If he was criminal, he should have been arrested and taken to court. The bullet wound on his face shows he was shot at close range and therefore was not running away,” Ms Dullo said.

The Press Point is reliably informed that IPOA officers visited the scene of crime and recorded statements from local residents and police officers who were on patrol during the material day.
