Less than an hour after fundraising for 70 churches in Isiolo at Ngaremara, Deputy President William Ruto, who contributed Sh2 million, like is used to, embarked on-road tour to popularize his 2022 presidential bid.
And while Isiolo Woman Rep Rehema Jaldesa who had invited DP Ruto to the fundraiser assured him that the county was in support of Hustler movement, it was unbelievable that only her and area MCA Ekwan Teru (elected leaders) were present.
Governor Mohamed Kuti, his deputy Issa Abdi, Senator Fatuma Dullo, Abshiro Halake (Nominated), Isiolo North MP Hassan Oda and Isiolo South MP Abdi Koropu and 15 MCAs gave the event a wide berth.
But unknown to him, many youths who were at the event held at Kiwanja area in Ngaremara, were reportedly ferried from far flung areas and neighbouring counties.
The ground would later change-hundreds of youths heckled him in Isiolo town chanting pro-BBI slogans and rubbishing his Hustler narrative.
While waving placards, the irate youths shouted at the DP and the entourage that included a host of MPs allied to Tangatanga faction among them four MPs from Turkana, three from Meru, one from Embu.
DP Ruto was forced to cut short his speech and sped off following the booing.
He had before then asked the youths “Tuko pamoja” and a loud voice is heard saying “Hatuko pamoja”
Had he spotted the red flag, Dr Ruto could have avoided the embarrassment by driving past the town without addressing the violent youths.
The local leaders who snubbed the event are supporting the constitutional amendments born from Handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM Raila Odinga.
