Embu-based Star Journalist Reuben Githinji has succumbed to Covid-19 complications at a hospital in Murang’a County.
The journalist fell ill last week and was rushed to Embu Level Five Hospital in critical condition but was later transferred to a Murang’a hospital where he died on March 24.
While mourning him, journalists accused the Embu Hospital of negligence saying had health workers acted swiftly, Mr Githinji could have not died.
Mr Mutugi M’Njue said it was unfortunate that the county insisted that it had functional ICU beds whereas their colleague could not be allocated one, because his Covid-19 status had not been confirmed, forcing his transfer.
“If only the Embu Level Five Hospital made sure that his lungs would not have collapsed, we would be speaking a different story today,” Mr Mutugi shared on Facebook after Mr Githinji’s demise.
“I cannot stand to see everyone around me crying because we all know that if health workers acted swiftly, our colleague would still be alive,” he added.
Mr Githinji was buried at their home in Nyahururu, Laikipia County yesterday (March 27).
His death came few days after former Nation FM presenter Lorna Kariuki, Radio Citizen Managing Editor Robin Njogu and former NTV anchor Winnie Mukami died of the same disease.
