Isiolo Deputy Governor Dr Abdi Issa wants leaders held responsible for making inflammatory statements that could divide county residents.
The leader last week met the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) chair Samuel Kobia in a bid to ensure the recently witnessed chaos in Isiolo does not recur.
The inter-community fights that left at least 10 people injured, halted business in Isiolo town for three days and left business people counting losses after their shops were looted by one of the rioting groups.
Dr Issa called on NCIC to bring to book those using social media to bring disunity among the county residents and probe those behind the recent chaos.
“I assured him (Kobia) that leaders and elders are prioritizing issues of community engagement on peace and reconciliation,” he said.
Governor Mohamed Kuti last week called on the security organs to take action against leaders making inflammatory utterances saying if not tamed could tear the county apart.
Dr Kuti said leaders should be in the frontline in preaching peace and ensuring residents remained united and not propagating divisive politics for their own selfish gains.
“The underlying tension in the county has been created by leaders. We all (as leaders) must get rid of it and heal the community,” he said while stressing on the need for unity among the leaders.
When there is chaos, the Governor said, only residents feel the brunt and not leaders.
“We are not even sure if we will make it to 2022 because it is only God who knows,” the Governor said in a swipe on leaders dividing residents for their political gains.
