Why is the Kikuyu community defying one of its own, President Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta? Why is the community going against the order of ethnic and political nature?
As other community members coalesce around their kingpins in readiness for the forthcoming 2022 general election, the Kikuyu community is doing the opposite.
It is neither appreciative of the leader it already has nor is it bothered to look for one to guide its collective interests post-Uhuru Presidency.
While other communities are strengthening existing political parties, political minions within the Kikuyu community are registering political parties like candy shops.
Like the biblical poor children of Israel, the community is lost in the political wilderness.
The community is therefore becoming easy prey to marauding political hunters and like the chosen people of Israel, it will live to regret it.
If you encounter a Kikuyu and ask him or her what the problem is, the common whisper is, “We cannot be ruled by Raila,” that including unpalatable I cannot mention here.
Those reasons cannot hold water because in 2003 Raila Odinga was the most liked leader within the Kikuyu community beside former President Mwai Kibaki.
If this community’s love for a leader is based on favours received, the community would be treating Raila with true love.
Were it not for Raila’s 2002 “Kibaki Tosha” the community’s almost twenty years hold onto power after the dawn of multi-partism, would most likely not have happened.
Similarly, political and ethnic reconciliation is not the answer to this community behavior because it should be receptive to Uhuru and Raila handshake.
Most puzzling is that the leader that the community is currently dining with was at one time its worst nemesis, proving it doesn’t hold lasting grudges against any leader.
That as it may, the Kikuyu community appears disorganised and at worst directionless.
Should this be the case?
Whether it likes it or not, the Kikuyu community must face its worst fears and reconcile itself with the below mentioned.
This country can and will one time be ruled by a Luo or and leader from another community outside Mt Kenya and Rift Valley regions.
Kenya can be ruled by a Mt. Kenya leader from outside Kiambu, Murang’a and Nyeri counties.
A leader the Kikuyu community supports can be defeated at the national level.
Leaders from outside Mt Kenya and Rift Valley cannot be vindictive against Kikuyus if they take over power in this country.
President Uhuru Kenyatta is not their enemy but a leader who means well for his Kikuyu community.
The Head of State is currently very popular outside Mt Kenya and can move any agenda that he wishes without major Kikuyu support.
The most sensible thing for the community to do is listen and heed Uhuru’s advice on the future community leadership.
Kenya’s leadership is not about the security and welfare of only the Kikuyu nation but all other communities comprising over 40 million citizens.
Communities outside Rift Valley and Mt Kenya are not convinced when Kikuyus allege Uhuru has done little for his community.
In the above regard, the fears that has gripped this community are therefore superficial, unwarranted, misplaced and totally unnecessary, but cannot be ignored.
Finally, even if the Kikuyu community defy common sense, it is becoming obviously clear that communities from outside Mt Kenya and Rift Valley have unfinished business to deal with.
That is to prove that a leader can emerge from another part of this country other than those two regions.
