One suspect has been arrested in connection with Monday night’s killing of a police officer at Loruko police post in Isiolo.
The 23-year-old was arrested during a public baraza that was convened in the morning that brought together village elders and the security team.
Isiolo County Commissioner Geoffrey Omoding said the suspect would be crucial in giving links that would lead to arrest of the rest of the other criminals who committed the heinous act.
“We urge those hiding to surrender to police and surrender the government arms before we get them because they have poked fingers in the government’s eye,” said Mr Omoding.
The administrator warned police officers against laxity while at work maintaining that stern action will be taken against those not taking their work seriously.
“If you want to be going home without permission then we will relieve you off your duties and allow you to go home and rest,” he said, adding,”the criminals took advantage of the laxity of the officers to kill and steal the firearms.”
The bandits, suspected to be four, ambushed the station at around 7:20pm killing the officer present before getting away with two G3 rifles and fleeing on a motorbike.
According to Mr Omoding, one of the officers had gone to Isiolo town for banking services while another one was outside the compound to make a phone call.
Police are now looking into a possibility that the criminals could have colluded with some of the residents for intelligence before commiting the crime.
A manhunt for the rest of the criminals still on the run has been launched.
