A section of Isiolo residents including local elders have lashed out at the Senate Public Accounts Committee for threatening to push for dissolution or stoppage of funds to the county ostensibly due to Governor Abdi Ibrahim Guyo’s failure to respond to expenditure queries raised in Auditor General’s reports for financial years 2019/2020 and 2020/2021.
The residents wondered why the Senator Moses Kajwang-led watchdog committee that Friday held a sitting at the Isiolo Assembly chambers and later inspected several county projects chose to share their findings in public instead of retreating to write a report as is usually the norm.
They also took issues with the Senators inspection of the Referral Hospital morgue whose coolers have broken down, saying they should have been kind enough to also check on patients.
“They had an ulterior motive and that is why were never bothered to check on how departments at the hospital were performing,” Elder Ahmed Wako said.
The group accused Senator Fatuma Dullo of engaging in early campaigns which they said threatened development.
“It is unfortunate that our leaders are already campaigning for 2027 instead of focusing on issues that affect the Mwananchi. I appeal to the Senator to cease from engaging in politics and instead support Governor Guyo to deliver to the people by giving him a conducive environment,” said Njuri Ncheke elder Geoffrey Nabea.
United Democratic Alliance supporters called on President William Ruto to protect the county boss from interference by a section of ‘Azimio’ senators who they claimed were out to sabotage development in the county.
“It feels sad that despite Governor Guyo joining the ruling party he is facing threats and intimidations from Azimio Senators claiming to be on an oversight mission. This should stop,” noted Baby Hustler.
During the inspection tour, the Senators reprimanded Governor Guyo and the executive for failing to respond in writing or appearing in person during the sitting at the county Assembly and consequently fined him Sh500, 000.
