Isiolo Civil Society Network Chair Abdullahi Shandey has passed on while receiving treatment in Nairobi.
The ever jovial man, who was asthmatic, had been in the hospital for nearly a month and died on Wednesday afternoon.
It is not yet known what killed Mr Shandey, founder of Merti Integrated Development Program, but sources that spoke to the Press Point hinted that he had before admission exhibited Corona-like symptoms.
“He was responding well to medication for various complications. It is not clear if he had recovered from Covid-19,” the source said.
Residents, local leaders and activists eulogized the deceased as true champion of community led development in Arid and Semi Arid counties.
“Rest in peace our leader and mentor,” said Mr Hosea Kandagor, the Vice Chair of the CSO Network.
Education CAS Mumina Bonaya mourned the departed officer as an agent of change and community mobilizer on development issues.
“It has been a tough battle for him… I am mourning an elder, close friend , witty and humorous village mate… I am heartbroken,” the CAS wrote on her Facebook page.
Ms Grace Lolim of Isiolo Gender Watch said she was saddened with the news and condoled with the bereaved family.
“On behalf of IGW and its working group, I convey my heartfelt condolences to the family of the departed during this trying moment. I lack words to express the shock,” she wrote on a Whatsapp.
