Karatina University in Nyeri County has been temporarily closed following protests by students for lack of involvement by the management in the critical decisions touching on their welfare.
The students claimed that they were being forced to sit for first semester exams whereas they had not covered all the syllabus and accused Vice Chancellor Prof Muchiri Muchai of dictatorship.
The irate learners took to the streets on Wednesday barricaded roads halting business at Kagochi and Gitunduti trading centre and later broke window panes at the school while they engaged police officers in day long running battles.
The university management, in December 2 communication, ordered all the students to leave the institution with immediate effect and suspended the 2020/21 end of semester exams till further notice.
“The University Senate in a special meeting on December 2 resolved to postpone the exams… Students are directed to clear from the university with immediate effect,” a letter signed by Registrar in charge of Academic Research and Students Affairs Dr Wangari Gathuthi.
