Isiolo’s Cherab MCA Halima Golle Abgudo has officially revealed that she will vie for the Woman Representative seat in the 2027 general elections.
Ms Abgudo, who is Isiolo’s first elected female ward representative, said her ambition was fueled by the desire to serve the community better than she was doing in her current position.
The trained nurse, who is currently the minority leader at the Isiolo County Assembly, expressed optimism that her past and current score card and the zeal with which she has and continues to serve the community with would enable her unseat incumbent County MP Mumina Bonaya.
“My past service in various capacities including in the NGO world where I worked for many years has demonstrated my sense of humanity and I want to serve Isiolo people in a bigger position,” she told The Press Point.
She was however quick to assure Isiolo residents that her 2027 ambitions would not interfere with her current role as the Cherab MCA.
“I have never turned my back against those in need and as a leader, I will continue supporting the residents in my current capacity as I seek to make their lives better,” she noted.
Ms Abgudo floored four men including her predecessor Mohammed Jirmo, garnering 2,361 votes in the August 2022 elections. Osman Abdirahman came second with 1709 votes followed by Jirmo who got 903 votes.
The former Isiolo County Tourism Executive further said she will continue championing for girl-child education and collaborating with various actors in eradication of harmful cultural practices such as Female Genital Mutilation.
Top on her agenda is job creation, increased water access especially in remote areas as well as women empowerment.
MP Bonaya prides herself in robust women empowerment, improved access to education and job creation.
Political alignment, development track and mobilization skills will play a key role in who clinches the seat in the next elections.
Lamu Women Rep Muthoni Marubu and her Tharaka-Nithi counterpart Susan Ngugi are among former elected MCAs who clinched the county MP seats in the last elections.
