Tharaka Nithi, widely known as stronghold due to its solid voting as a block in past polls, has been split into two by the Building Bridges Initiative with battle lines drawn between local leaders supporting and opposing the document.
The report, born from the Handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga, has further widened the rift between Governor Muthomi Njuki and ally turned foe Senator Kithure Kindiki both expected to battle it out for the Governorship in 2022 general polls.
Prof Kindiki, who is opposing the constitutional amendments, has the backing of four local MPs while Mr Njuki has teamed up with MCAs and a number of losers in 2017 elections in pushing and campaigning for the reforms.
