President elect William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza Alliance stamped Authority in the Senate after bagging both the Speaker and Deputy Speaker seats in the 13th Parliament.
Former Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi was overwhelmingly elected Speaker of the Upper House after garnering 46 out of total 66 votes while third Meru Senator Kathuri Murungi picked as the Deputy Speaker.
Mr Kingi’s main competitor Kalonzo Musyoka, who is the Wiper Party leader, bolted out of the race Thursday morning.
Following the decision communicated by Senate Clerk Jeremiah Nyegenye, Senators allied to Azimio la Umoja coalition staged a walkout over what they termed as integrity issues among some of the candidates and maintained that they would not participate in the elections.
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna said they will not be part of a “fraudulent” process.
