Former Kirinyaga Woman Rep Purity Wangui Ngirici has moved to court to challenge Governor Anne Waiguru’s win in the August 9 elections.
Ms Ngirici who was Ms Waiguru’s main opponent in the gubernatorial race has filed a petition at Kirinyaga High Court seeking to have the victory nullified and fresh polls conducted.
She claims that there were electoral malpractices and that the process was not free, fair and verifiable.
Further, the leader says voting in some areas especially Gichugu constituency that she claims had abnormally high voter turnout was extended past 6PM.
Some of her agents, she claims, were kicked out of the polling stations making it hard for them to monitor the process.
Ms Waiguru of UDA party garnered 113, 008 votes while Ms Ngirici of Independent ticket got 105, 677.
