An armed thug was Saturday night shot dead by an undercover detective while trying to accost him as he came out from a mosque in Ushirika estate in Eastleigh, Nairobi.
Riding on a motorbike, the criminal and his accomplice confronted the detective around 9PM, ransacked his pockets and stole his mobile phone, wallet and other valuables.
One of them then fired at the detective missing his left ear but the officer quickly whipped out his firearm tucked in his loins and fired back at the thug killing him on the spot.
As the officer quickly moved to disarm the miscreant, the accomplice was forced to jump into a water culvert by the roadside to evade arrest after the motorbike failed to start though escaped with life threatening injuries.
A Jericho pistol serial No: KP 44338853 with six rounds of 9mm calibre ammunition were recovered from the slain thug as well as one spent cartridge of 9mm calibre and a black motorcycle registration number KMFE 106P.
Preliminary investigations identified the firearm as the one snatched from a senior police officer in Naivasha, on November 16, 2020 in an armed robbery.
The officer was accosted at the entrance to his home at Lakeview estate as he retired for the night, after overseeing enforcement of curfew orders at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The senior officer was left unconscious at his gate with life threatening injuries inflicted on his head but Good Samaritans saved his life after rushing him to hospital.
