Police in Laikipia are investigating circumstances surrounding last Sunday’s killing of a 27-year-old man by an elderly friend during a drinking spree in Kanjiando village.
A 70-year-old John Kiugu allegedly stabbed to death John Kiptoo following a quarrel while at a Chang’aa den that arose minutes after they had arrived and taken several cups of the illicit brew.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the irate Mzee went home after the disagreement over unknown matter only to later return with a kitchen knife and stab the friend several times.
The suspect was rescued by officers from Sironi police post while irate revellers prepared to lynch him for the inhumane act.
Mr Kiptoo succumbed to injuries while being rushed to hospital. His body was moved to Nyahururu Referral Hospital morgue.
Police sources said the suspect detained at Nyahururu Police Station will be arraigned after ongoing investigations are completed.
