A benevolent organisation has in partnership with Isiolo North MP aspirant Mohammud Abdikadir Guyo offered food to 4000 hungry families in Isiolo.
The food assistance will be distributed in Charri and Cherab wards to cushion the drought-hit families.
More than 100, 000 Isiolo residents are in dire need of food according to data from the National Drought Management Authority that indicates the drought situation is on a worsening trend.
While flagging off the food consignment in Isiolo town, Star of Hope Association representative Siad Dima said the maize flour and rice donation will take the families for nearly two weeks.
“The food is meant to cushion the families against the harsh economic times. We appeal to those with food to share with the needy,” Dr Mohammud said.
The county government was asked to intervene and help hunger stricken families in the remaining eight wards.
The drought, that was aggravated by delayed October-November-December rains, saw more than 70, 000 animals die between September last year and February this year.
