Two days after Deputy President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance party nullified victory of Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter in the recent primaries, the lawmaker has revealed that he will seek reelection as an independent candidate.
Mr Keter termed the cancellation of his win as threat to democracy warning the party of fierce duel in the August elections.
He expressed confidence that he will be reelected due to his development track record.
A Friday ruling by the party’s dispute tribunal ruled that Mr Bernard Kitur who had challenged Mr Keter’s win had proven beyond reasonable doubt that the Tuesday primaries were marred with irregularities which impacted the outcome.
But the MP termed the allegations baseless saying the win at the primaries was a clear indication of the confidence that the electorates had in his leadership.
Mr Keter garnered 10, 273 votes against Kitur’s 7468 votes with Robert Chepkwony coming third with 2513 votes.
“My victory was nullified without any valid reason. The will of the people shall prevail,” he said.
