Police in Laikipia are pursuing a group of armed bandits who reportedly killed an officer and injured his colleague at Mlima Jangiki police camp on Wednesday.
The criminals, suspected to have escaped from neighboring Baringo County where a security operation is ongoing, ambushed the station prompting a fierce gun exchange with the officers who were present at the station.
Reports indicate that Police Constable Elisha Yegon was shot on the stomach and died on spot while one of his colleague sustained injuries on the legs.
Interior CS Dr Fred Matiang’i last week launched a major security operation in volatile Baringo, Elgeyo/Marakwet and West Pokot counties to bring to an end the criminal activities.
