Two suspects who reportedly abducted a Catholic nun in Meru, threatened to rape and kill her before violently obtaining money from her have been arraigned.
The two, Mr Patrick Ngure Kiragu and Nixon Kinyua Muthungu aged 50 and 42 years respectively were arrested along Kitui-Kibwezi road while hunting for more victims.
Appearing before Meru Law Courts on Wednesday they pleaded not guilty to robbery with violence charges.
The suspects are said to have posed as good Samaritans and offered the nun who was headed to Meru town from Kiamuri area a lift in a grey Toyota Premio car on February 5, 2022.
Along the way, the driver engaged their victim in a lengthy conversation of his life claiming that he was adopted by an Italian family who raised him up.
The two would then applaud the nun for their missionary work which police suspect was meant to earn her confidence.
On arriving at her destination, the the victim requested the driver to stop and before he could respond her seat was reclined by the other man who was seated at the back of the car.
The suspects are said to have blindfolded the nun with her leso before the two took an unknown amount of money from her purse and forced her to transfer all what she had in her Mpesa account.
They would later coerce her to ask for money from two other people failure to which they threatened to rape and kill her.
Fearing for the worst, the terrified victim obliged and would later be dropped in a secluded area before the suspects took off.
